Gregory the Great: Scene, celebrating Mass -- Gregory the Great, nimbed, wearing priest vestments, kneeling with joined hands raised before draped altar on which are open book on bookstand, chalice covered by corporal, and paten, behind the altar three-quarter figure of Christ, nimbed, wearing loin cloth, body covered in wounds, orant, stands in sarcophagus surrounded by Instruments of Passion including tau-cross, ladder, sponge on reed, and two nails. To right before screen, among two acolytes, one holding triple-crowned tiara of the Gregory. Scene in church interior. Decorated border of scrolling foliate and floreate ornament. Miniature at beginning of Psalter of the Passion.
