Miniature, column, right: Beneath rays, Jerome, nimbed, wearing cardinal’s vestments, seated on chair decorated with relief of figure and with cardinal’s hat slung over one post, with right hand extended to leaf on desk on which is unfurling scroll with pseudo-inscriptions. In foreground right, nimbed and winged lion. In background, bookshelf in which are seven books. Scene in room with tiled floor. Miniature at beginning of Collect for Feast of Jerome (09.30). Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by busts of six helmeted figures, possibly soldiers, emerging out of foliate buds (right); and half figures of men, wearing hats, both with hands raised, amid foliage (lower).
