Upper half: Saul: Rending of Garment -- At left, man standing behind Saul, crowned, rending garment of Samuel, wearing conical hat. Samuel: hewing Agag -- Executioner raising sword above one of three men, with joined hands raised, reclining on ground next to tree. Both scenes from chapter 15 of I Samuel (Vulg., I Kings). David: anointed -- At right, two men standing behind Samuel, wearing conical hat, raising aspergil with right hand and holding situla with left hand, facing David, crowned, raising scepter with both hands; two men standing behind him. From chapter 16 of I Samuel (Vulg., I Kings). Lower half: David: slinging at Goliath -- At left, David, wearing helmet and armor, holding sling containing stone with both hands, looking up toward Goliath wearing helmet and armor, raising club (?) with both hands, sword at waist. From chapter 17 of I Samuel (Vulg., I Kings). David: slaying Philistines (?) -- At right, David (?), wearing helmet and armor, piercing with spear, body of man with joined hands raised.
