Confessio Amantis: Scene, Hercules and Achelous competing for Dejanira -- Within pen surrounded by fence, Hercules stands, holding adder (Achelous) in right hand, his right arm grasped by left hand of Achelous, holding dagger (?) in right hand, at breast of Hercules. Both wear armor and helmet. At right is bull (Achelous), his horns held, one in each hand, by Hercules. Outside of fence, looking on are Oeneus, King of Calydon, wearing tall brimless hat, and his daughter Dejanira, wearing butterfly headdress.
