Upper half: Samuel: urging Israelites to serve God (?) -- At left, several men surrounding Samuel, many wearing hats, foremost indicating Samuel, gesturing with both hands. From I Samuel:13-25 (Vulg., I Kings). David: Scene, Unidentified -- David, holding bloody garment, standing before Saul, crowned, hands raised; three men standing behind him. Abigail: going to David -- At right, Abigail, wearing hood, holding bowl with right hand and pitcher with left hand, standing before David, raising right hand. From I Samuel: 25 (Vulg., I Kings). Lower half: David: Scene, Unidentified -- At left, three men, eyes closed, heads visible next to tent in which is king, eyes closed, reclining on draped bed. Next to tent, at right, two men standing behind Saul, crowned, holding scepter with right hand, raising left hand, looking toward David holding covered vessel. Possibly David: presenting Dowry to Saul. David: Battle -- At right, David, wearing helmet and armor, raising sword with right hand, grasping head of soldier, bleeding from wounds, holding sword with right hand, falling to ground. Other soldiers reclining on ground, bleeding. Of three standing soldiers, one raising sword with right hand and holding shield at left side, another raising axe with both hands.
