Gregory the Great: Scene, celebrating Mass -- Bishop, wearing miter and vestments and holding crozier, male donor (?), kneeling with book held in both hands, and two tonsured cardinals, including one with hat hanging around his neck and holding triple crown papal tiara, and the other holding double cross-staff, are all behind Gregory the Great, tonsured, kneeling with joined hands raised before draped altar with open book with pseudo-inscription, chalice, paten, and candle on candlestick. Appearing in sarcophagus on top of altar is Christ of Sorrows, wearing crown of thorns and short loin cloth, with right hand indicating wounds. Behind Christ are instruments of the passion, including cross with titulus, lantern, ladder, hammer, pieces of silver, pincers, nails, dice, torches, sponge on reed, spear, and soldiers. Scene in interior of church, with blind gallery, arched leaded glass windows, statue of virgin and child atop column, and people standing behind choirscreen.
