Upper half: Elijah: raising Widow’s Son -- At left, Elijah, wearing miter, with right hand raised in blessing, and with left hand grasping left wrist of Widow’s Son, nude, seated on altar, flanked by groups of men, gesturing and in conversation with each other, and group of three women, veiled with wimples, the foremost, possibly mother, with joined hands raised. All in temple. From chapter 17 of I Kings (Vulg., III Kings). Elijah: commanded to come down -- At right, Elijah, wearing hat, with joined hands raised, kneeling on rocky mound and looking up toward face of Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, appearing in cloud, standing beside streams of fire falling from cloud onto Captain of Fifty, helmeted, laying in heap on ground. From chapter 1 of II Kings (Vulg., IV Kings). Lower half: Elijah: Ascension -- At left, Elijah, inscribed ELIAS, appearing as bust in flaming quadriga, flying in sky. Below, bear trampling and biting two of five youths, the other three pointing upward or gesturing, accompanied by group of six men (two with only heads visible), at least two wearing hoods and one wearing hat, some gesturing. From chapter 2 of II Kings (Vulg., IV Kings). Elisha: Widow’s Oil -- At right, accompanied by three men (two with only heads visible), the third wearing draped headgear, Elisha, wearing miter and vestments, gesturing toward Widow, wearing wimpled headdress, with both hands pouring oil into barrel, within architectural niche.
