Ninus: Scene, Battle -- Ninus, helmeted, holds bow in left hand and and with right hand aims arrow toward man lying prone on ground over weapon (club?), bleeding from wound on head. In background, among nine soldiers, wearing pointed or rounded helmets, including Assyrians and Babylonians, most hold or raise clubs, one holds shield. Scene in grassy landscape with two trees. Figures painted in grisaille. Margins decorated with floreate and foliate border above and below right column, including daisy, miniature within gold frame. Illustration of Book 2, History of the Orient I (Assyria). Initial A of Ainsi decorated with heraldry of the Créquy family (or, wild plum gules).
