Evangelist Mark, nimbed, seated on faldstool, with knife in right hand, sharpens quill in left hand. Scroll or page is on lap. Evangelist symbol (lion) is seated at right. Beyond arched opening behind him, in grisaille, two groups of figures, flanking hillock, look up toward lower portion of garment at top of miniature (Christ: Ascension). Four (?) with joined hands, one veiled, several are only partially visible. Text below miniature is beginning of Gospel sequence of Mark (Mark 16:14, variant).
