Christ: crowned with Thorns -- Christ, nimbed, wearing crown of thorns, His body draped with mantle, raising right hand, holding branch with left hand, is seated on bench. He is flanked by two men, one wearing hat, and striking Christ on head with rod, and the other raising rod with right hand. Woman, veiled, stands behind each torturer.
Caption, IHESUS CORONATUR SPINUS, is inscribed above scene.
Text references, M(A)R(CUS) 15 and JOH(ANN)IS 19, are in upper margin.
Right column:
Darius the Mede: Crown taken -- Darius, crowned, holding scepter with left hand, is seated on bench. At left, Apame, name inscribed APPEMEN, grasps the crown with her left hand and extends right hand to his face. At right, Zorobabel, name inscribed ZORABABEL, wearing Jew's hat, holds book with left hand, and with right hand indicates upward towards caption.
