Stephen Protomartyr: Stoning -- Stephen, nimbed, tonsured, wearing deacon's vestments, bleeding from wound in his head, holding martyr's palm in joined raised hands, kneels on one kneel and looks up toward arc of heaven, emanating rays, in which is God and Christ, both nimbed, each with right hand raised in blessing. Flanking Stephen are two tormentors, one wearing hat, with sword sheathed at waist, holding stones in gathered garment with left hand and raising stone in right hand; and the other, raising stone in right hand and holding basket of stones in left hand. In background sits man, wearing hat, holding raised sword in right hand. Scene in landscape with trees, stones, and distant city of Jerusalem (?).
Margins with foliate and ivy-rinceaux ornament.
