Scene, Historical: Battle of Philippi -- Among groups of helmeted soldiers, (including Octavian and Mark Antony’s armies), some wearing conical or turban-like hats, one aims crossbow, the foremost man pierces shoulder of fallen soldier, who extends sword in left hand, one holds human-faced shield, at least two more hold shields, several hold spears. Scene in landscape with trees. Figures painted in grisaille. Miniature within gold frame. Text is end of Part IV, Chapter 1041 of Faits de Romains and beginning of Chapter 1042, or possibly a new text, Vie des Douze Césars.
