Beginning of Matthew.
Jesse: Tree -- In decorated initial L is Jesse, reclining in bed with head resting on right arm. From his side grows tree on which sits Virgin Mary, nimbed, holding Christ Child, cross nimbed. On branches are heads of kings, crowned. Branch continue up leg of initial, at top pf which is eagle or dove, cross nimbed, emerging from clouds, above which is head of man of God, nimbed.
In lower margin is man playing trumpet, Matthew's symbol (angel), nimbed, seated at desk, writing in open book. Beside him is dog pursuing deer and half figure of man, shooting arrow from bow.
