Beginning of Mark.
In uppermost compartment of decorated initial I is Christ, crossed nimbus, partially draped, holding scepter in left hand and with raising right hand in gesture of blessing, sits beneath gothic arch.
Christ: Baptism -- In middle compartment of decorated I, John Baptist, pearled nimbus, with left hand raised, stands beside Christ, crossed nimbus, nude, in water. Above him is dove of Holy Ghost, cross-nimbed (head only). Scene below gothic arch.
In lowest compartment of decorated initial I is Matthew's symbol (angle), nimbed, seated at desk and writing on sheet of parchment with pseudo-inscription. Figure below pointed arch.
In left margin is half-figure of man, touching bottom of decorated initial I with his right hand.
Birds in upper and lower margin.
