Livres des Merveilles du Monde: Scene, Syria -- To left on mound, among two men, wearing hats, one extends right hand to right shoulder of the other man, wearing pouch tied to belt, beside third man, raising mattock over hole in ground. To right, in building, statue of Virgin Mary and nude Christ Child, His hands extended to her breast, partly bared. She is seated on throne, with draped altar at her feet and two curtains on rods on eaither side. Room with sculptural niches and two arched windows. Scene in grassy and hilly landscape with trees and crenellated buildings in background. Initial S of Sirie decorated with foliate ornament. Miniature for Livre de Merveilles du Monde for Syria.
