In background, beyond low wattle fence is man, wearing hat, carrying spade over left shoulder; and woman, wearing kerchief, holding pitcher in left hand, standing in doorway of half-timbered house with thatched roof and derelict grain silo (?). In distance is river, castle, and hills.
