Miniature, left compartment: Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, Miracle of Wine Cask -- Youthful Exhilaratus of Montecassino, partly kneels, extending flagon to raised hands of nimbed Benedict of Montecassino, tonsured and bearded, wearing monk’s habit, accompanied by seven monks, wearing hooded habits (five with only heads visible); all before building, possibly Monastery of Montecassino, and trees in landscape. Miniature, right compartment: Youthful Exhilaratus of Montecassino pours flagon out of which issues serpent; in landscape with trees and city walls in background. Miniature within frame at end of Chapter 18 of Book II of Dialogues; Exhilaratus of Montecassino hides flagon of wine in bushes and Benedict of Montecassino changes the wine into a serpent.
