Beginning of John.
Trinity: Mercy Seat -- In uppermost comapartment of decorated initial I is God, cross-nimbed, seated on bench, holding arms of cross, affixed to which is Christ, bleeding from wounds. Beside him is dove of Holy Ghost, nimbed.
Christ: Last Supper -- In center compartment of decorated initial I is Chrsit, cross nimbed, with left hand touching head of Evangelist John. He is surrounded ny four apostles. They all stand behind draped table, upon which aer knives and bowls.
In lowest compartment of decorated intial I is Johns symbol (eagle), seated at desk, writing in open book with pseudo-inscription.
Margin is decorated with foliage ornalent and inhabited by four birds and dog.
