Zone 1:
David: anointed -- Flanked by six sons, Jesse with his right hand grasps left hand of one son and with his left arm embraces shoulder of another; some sons raise their hands. To right, God, nimbed, emerges from clouds above Samuel, head draped, pouring oil from vessel of affusion on head of David, with scrip (burse) at waist, raising right hand and holding pedum in left hand. He is held by Jesse followed by three sons. Illustration of I Samuel 16:13.
Zone 2:
1) Saul: troubled by Evil Spirit -- Saul, crowned, sits on throne with footstool, rends his garment with his left hand, and raises his right hand to his right ear; his right arm is grasped by winged devil. The king looks up toward nimbed dove of Holy Ghost, ascending. To right, five servants stand; three hold staves, and two raise right hands. Illustration of I Samuel 16:14-16.
2) David: fetched by Messenger -- Among three messengers, two hold staves, and one points toward David, wearing fillet, holding harp, seated in portal before Jesse raising his right hand and with his left hand pointing toward David. Illustration of I Samuel 16:19.
