Divina Commedia, Purgatorio: Scene, Atonement of Excommunicate -- Dante, wearing hat, with hands crossed on his breast, stands with Virgil. Sun, with human face, shines at left. Before Dante and Virgil stands nude soul of Manfred of Sicily, with wounds in forehead and chest, standing at base of mountain of Purgatory, upon which are other nude souls.
