Stephen Protomartyr: Stoning -- Stephen Protomartyr, nimbed, tonsured, wearing priest’s vestments, with both hands raised and kneeling between two baskets of stones and flanked by two executioners, raising stones. Above, bust of God in arc of Heaven emitting rays to head of the Stephen. Margins decorated with border of strewn wild roses and inhabited by moth. Miniature at beginning of prayer to Stephen Protomartyr.
