Christ: Crucifixion, nailed to Cross -- In initial D, Christ, cross-nimbed, wearing short loincloth, lies on cross on grass, His arms already affixed. One of two soldiers holds His feet; the other, wearing sword at waist, holds nail with left hand and raises hammer with right hand. A third figure, recumbent, only partially visible, with right foot braced on stake in ground next to cross, holds rope with both hands that possibly pulls down feet of Chrit. At left is man holding rod in raised right hand, and soldiers, wearing helmets, some holding spear (?). At right are Virgin Mary, nimbed and veiled, with joined hands, kneeling, next to two other nimbed figures, only partially visible.
Initial on gold background and decorated with ornament of rinceaux.
