Gregory the Great: Scene, celebrating Mass -- Gregory the Great, nimbed, wearing cross-inscribed vestment, kneels with joined hands raised befroe draped altar with book on bookstand, covered chalice, and retable with three figures. Above the altar is vision of Christ, as half figure, in mandorla emanating rays. Behind Gregory kneels acolyte, holding Gregory's vestment in left hand and candle in right hand. In background are Instruments of the Passion, including ladder, cross, scourge, column, and cock.
