Miniature, left compartment: Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, Miracle of Excommunicated Nuns -- One of two nuns, wearing wimpled veils and habits, holds basket laden with food, with barking dog at her feet, both gesture toward monk, bearded, wearing cap and habit, with knife and rosary tied on belt, looking back and raising right hand, all before door of building and pine tree. Miniature, right compartment: Bearded and tonsured monk, wearing habit, with rosary and knife tied on belt, partly kneels, with cap in extended hands, before nimbed Benedict of Montecassino, bearded, wearing hooded monk’s habit, with right hand holding book and in left hand gathering garment. Scene in room with two arched windows and open door in background. Miniature within frame at beginning of Chapter 23 of Book II of Dialogues; Two nuns who provoke a religious man with their wicked speech are reported to Benedict of Montecassino.
