Legend, Gesta Romanorum XLV -- Corpse of father, partially draped in shroud, with two arrows in breast, is bound to tree. Beside the tree kneels youth (son), with hands raised, being crowned by man. Man on horse, wearing hat, with scepter or rod points to the crown. Other two sons, including one leaning on bow held in left hand, witness scene. In background is landscape with mountains and distant city (?).
Miniature enclosed in architectural frame composed of satanic caryatids, with horns and goat legs, both balancing pots of fruit and leaves on their heads, and other classical elements.
