Evangelist Matthew, nimbed, open book in left hand, pen in right hand, seated on cushioned bench, beside inkpot on lectern, looks up toward Evangelist symbol, nimbed, holding book, emerging from clouds. At right, rolls in chest. Below the Evangelist, female saint, nimbed, dressed as nun or possibly abbess, possibly Rictrudis of Marchiennes, kneels (proskynesis ?) with hands joined in prayer.
