Divina Commedia, Purgatorio: Scene, Entrance into Purgatory -- Virgil stands with his hand on shoulder of Dante, wearing hat, kneeling with joined hands raised on steps to gate of Purgatory. The door is guarded by an angel, nimbed, seated and holding raised sword. in right hand and key in left hand.
