Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, cross-nimbed, head inclined, wearing crown of thorns and transparent loin cloth, bleeding from wounds in head, hands, side, and feet, is affixed by three nails to cross, flanked by Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, with joined hands raised and Evangelist John, nimbed, turned toward the cross, gesturing and with book cradled under left arm; three bones scattered at foot of cross. Scene in landscape against patterned background of fleur-de-lis. Borders decorated with foliate and ivy-leaf ornament, clumps of leaves spiraling from one side of the border to the other. Miniature for beginning of Short Hours of the Cross.
