Miniature, left compartment: 1) Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, at School -- Schoolmaster, wearing hood, stands before book on lectern, before eight youths, including infant Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, wearing hat, holding book with pseudo-inscriptions (reading), others wearing hats or hoods, most holding books, all seated on two benches. Scene in school interior with two arched windows and paneled walls. Miniature, right compartment: 2) Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, leaving Rome -- Cyrilla of Norcia, veiled, holding basket on right arm, follows youthful Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, wearing hat and hooded mantle. Scene before crenellated city wall of Rome with four towers, three surmounted by crosses, in landscape with trees. Miniature within architectural frame for Chapter 1 of Book II of Dialogues; Benedict of Montecassino and Cyrilla of Norcia, his nurse, leave Rome.
