Benedict of Montecassino: in Cave at Subiaco, and Devil breaking Bell -- Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, tonsured, partially nude, kneels amid thorns on one knee before crucifix. His habit is on ground beside him.
In background, Romanus of Subiaco, appearing at top of hill, holds container. Below, devil pulls rope attached to bell.
Scene framed by decorated border inscribed in display script ORA PRO NOBIS SANTE (sic) BENEDICTE.
