Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, nimbed, wearing short loin cloth and crown of thorns, bleeding from wounds, is affixed with three nails to tau cross with titulus inscribed I.N.R.I. Flanking the Christ are two theives, wearing short loin cloths, bound to tau crosses. To left of cross is Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, with joined hands, supported by Evangelist John, nimbed, and woman, possibly Mary Magdalen, nimbed, wearing wimpled veil. Behind them stand other nimbed figures and helmeted soldiers, including Longinus, wearing hat, piercing side of the Christ with spear also held by a soldier. To right of cross stand man, possibly Stephaton, wearing hat, with purse at waist, holding saber, helmeted soldiers with spears, including one with human-faced sheild, and man, wearing hat, pointing to the Christ. Beside his hand is scroll inscribed VERE FILIUS DEI ERAT. Scene in landscape with hills, sky with stars, and sun and moon.
