Christ: Deposition -- Christ, with crossed nimbus, wearing short loin cloth, bleeding from wounds, affixed with nail through his feet to tau cross with titulus inscribed I.N.R.I. and with crown of thorns hanging from crossbar, is supported in draped arms of Joseph of Arimathea, wearing hat, standing on ladder. Below on ground stand Evangelist John, nimbed, holding legs of the Christ; Virgin Mary, nimbed, veiled, holding to her mouth the right hand of the Christ (kissing ?); and other nimbed figures. Nicodemus, with hammer in purse at waist, holding left arm of the Christ with his left hand, stands on second ladder leaning against the cross. Scene in landscape with hills and trees, with bones (?) on ground at base of the cross. Background with gold scrolls.
Margins with foliate and ivy-rinceaux ornament.
