Two scenes within miniature:
1) Apostle, James Major: Hermogenes brought -- Within architectural setting, Apostle James Major, nimbed, wearing pilgrim's hat decorated with shell, holding book in right hand and raising left hand, stands beside Philetus the Convert. They look upwards at Hermogenes, borne aloft by two winged demons.
2) Apostle, James Major: Martyrdom -- Outside of architectural setting, within landscape, Josias the Scribe, nimbed, fallen to ground, beheaded, and Apostle James Major (represented twice), nimbed, kneeling with joined hands raised, are beheaded by executoner raising sword above head of the apostle. Pilgram's hat lies on ground beside the apostle. Herod Agrippa and another man, holding staff, look on.
