Evangelist John, nimbed, is seated on throne with attached desk. He is holding quill (?) in right hand; hanging over edge of desk are inkpot (?), weight (?) and top of page. At left, evangelist symbol, eagle, stands beside scroll inscribed IOHANNES. Background is gold filigree on red.
Margins decorated with border of foliate ornament.
