Miniature:
Gregory the Great: Scene, celebrating Mass -- Tonsured cleric, kneeling, holding candle in left hand, lifts chasuble of Gregory the Great, nimbed, wearing priest's vestments, kneeling before draped altar, on which are opened, inscribed book, chalice, and candle in candlestick. He holds wafer (host) in his hands and looks up toward Christ, decorated crossed nimbus, showing wounds in hands and side, against cross with nail. Two flanking wingless angels, hold embroided cloth in front of Him. On walls are two scourges hanging above curtain, hammer, and pincers (Instruments of Passion).
Margins decorated with border of floral and foliate ornament inhabited by angel as half-figure raising hands, dog lying under cluster of grapes and half-figure of man, with hat on back, reading from opened, inscribed book.
