Miniature, vignette, left margin: Christ: calling Matthew (?) -- Christ, cross-nimbed, gesturing toward man, possibly Evangelist Matthew, wearing hat and fur-trimmed garment, also gesturing. Scene in landscape with trees and city buildings in distance. Initial I enclosing Evangelist Symbol of Matthew (angel), with both hands holding blank scroll; against gold background, at beginning of Ninth Lesson on the Nineteenth Sunday after Feast of Trinity. Initial D enclosing head of man, wearing hat, at beginning of Collect "Da quaesumus Domine populo tuo diabolica vitare contagia ..." Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration inhabited by possibly three helmeted soldiers emerging from foliate buds (left); and busts of two men amid foliage (lower).
