Gregory the Great: Scene, celebrating Mass -- Of tonsured three clerics, two deacons kneel, one holding priest's chasuble worn by nimbed, tonsured Gregory. He holds wafer (host), inscribed with Crucifixion, standing at draped altar on which are open book with pseudo-inscriptions and standing Christ, wearing loin cloth, with His right hand, indicating bleeding side wound. In background are instruments of Passion including cross, ladder, three nails, scourge, and hammer. Scene in church with columns supporting ribs from vault.
