Miniature, column, right: Gregory the Great, nimbed, wearing cross-surmounted, triple crowned papal tiara and jeweled and tasselled cope, with gloved right hand holds cross-staff and with draped left hand holds book; in grassy landscape and against filigree background. Miniature at beginning of Collect in Matins for Feast of Gregory the Great (03.12). Miniature, vignette, right: Among four nimbed apostles (two with only nimbi visible), including the foremost Apostle Peter, with right hand raised, all before Christ, cross-nimbed, gesturing, from right shoulder issuing scroll inscribed HOC EST PRECEPTUM MEUM UT DILIGITATIS INUICEM, from John 15:12. Initial D enclosing half figure of Apostle Thomas, nimbus as rays, with right hand holding spear; against blue background. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, including strawberry, inhabited by lion as bishop, wearing miter with infulae and collar, with tongue protruding (right).
