Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, Poisoned Bread, Loaf brought -- Tonsured messenger, partly kneels, with cloth draped on neck, extending round loaf toward raised, joined hands of Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, wearing hooded monk’s habit, accompanied by three cowled monks. Scene before Monastery of Montecassino walls with cross-surmounted tower and in garden with hexagonal wellhead and tree. Miniature within frame for beginning of Chapter 8 of Book II of Dialogues; Florentius the Cleric poisons a loaf and delivers it to Benedict of Montecassino.
