Miniature, column, right: Catherine of Alexandria: Scene, Martyrdom -- Catherine of Alexandria, kneeling, with joined hands holding blank scroll, body bent over before executioner, raising scimitar. To left, Maxentius, wearing hat and ermine-lined cape and belted purse, with left hand holding rod and with right hand lowered to indicate scene, is accompanied by two men, wearing hats. Scene in hilly landscape in which bust of another man is visible at far right. Two shepherds, holding pedums, amid flocks of sheep on hilltops and city buildings in far distance. Miniature at beginning of Collect for Feast of Catherine of Alexandria (11.25). Initial D enclosing half figure of Catherine of Alexandria, nimbed, crowned, wearing mantle, with right hand raised and with left hand on hilt of down-turned sword. Margins decorated on three sides with scrolling floreate and foliate decoration, including strawberry, inhabited by two prophets, wearing hats, emerging from clouds, holding scrolls inscribed KATHERINA and EST I(N) SYNA(I) (right).
