Confessio Amantis: Scene, Bardus rescuing Hadrian -- Bardus, wearing tall brimless hat, stands holding, with both hands, rope hanging into well (pit). Hadrian, wearing tall brimless hat, extending object in right hand and raising left hand, stands to right of well, his back turned. At left are ape with bundle of sticks, and dragon (serpent) with stone in mouth.
