Miniature, left compartment: Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, appearing at Terracina -- Two tonsured monks, with joined hands raised, kneel before Benedict of Montecassino, nimbus with rays, bearded, wearing hooded monk’s habit, seated on bench, with right hand raised in blessing and left hand on book in lap. Scene in room with arched window and wooden ceiling. Miniature, right compartment: Benedict of Montecassino, as half-figure, nimbed, bearded, wearing hooded monk’s habit, emerges from decorated foilate arc, hovering over one of two beds, in which recline two sleeping monks, wearing hooded habits. Scene in bedroom with wooden ceiling. Miniature within frame for middle of Chapter 22 of Book II of Dialogues; Benedict of Montecassino appears to monks at his new abbey in Terracina.
