Christ: Crucifixion -- Christ, nimbed, with crown of thorns, bleeding from wounds, wearing short loin cloth, is affixed with three nails to cross. He is flanked above by sun and crescent moon. At left stand Evangelist John, and Virgin Mary, veiled with wimple; Mary Magdalen, crouching, embraces foot of cross. All are nimbed. At right, man, possibly Longinus of Jerusalem, indicating the cross, looks toward soldier holding scimitar. Two men, wearing hats, one only hat visible, and soldier stand behind them.
Scene in land scape with rocky outcrop, trees and city in background and hills in distance.
Margins decorated with border of floreate ornament including rose, and inhabited by peacock and by monkey, seated, holding horn (?) to mouth of swaddled infant reclining in cradle or crib (Scene, Burlesque).
