Benedict of Montecassino: Scene, Obsequies and Scene, Burial -- Body of Benedict of Montecassino, nimbed, bearded, wearing hooded monk’s habit, with arms crossed on waist, is lowered by four tonsured monks into tomb in monastery chapel, surrounded by groups of laymen and women, most wearing hats or headdresses, including one, covering face in cloth, one with joined hands raised, one raising left hand to head, one kneeling with joined hands raised, and several monks, wearing hooded habits and some with hoods down, tonsured, including two holding lit candles flanking one holding bannered processional cross, two reading from books, one swinging censer, and one extending aspergil with right hand; at least four others hold lit candles and two other candles rest in foreground. Scene in monastery chapel of apsed background with five arched windows and lamp suspended from apsidal arch. Miniature within frame at end of Chapter 37 of Book II of Dialogues; Benedict of Montecassino is buried in the John Baptist oratory at his Monastery in Montecassino.
