Miniature, upper left: 1) Christ: Last Judgment (part of) -- Christ, cross-nimbed, extends hands toward group of four men, one wearing hat and one wearing miter, and the foremost is one woman gesturing. Miniature, lower left: 2) Christ: Last Judgment (part of) -- Christ, cross-nimbed, extends hands to indicate weeping woman, veiled with wimple, her hands raised to her face, accompanied by weeping man, wearing hat, with hands raised to face, and two other men (only heads visible). Miniature, upper right: 3) Christ: Last Judgment (part of) -- Christ, cross-nimbed, extends hands toward youthful male, with his hands raised to face, accompanied by veiled woman with joined hands raised, and by another youthful male, wearing hat, and another male, wearing hat. Miniature, lower right: 4) John Baptist: sending Disciples to Christ (Matthew 11:2-3) -- Christ, cross-nimbed, extends hands toward two nimbed disciples, possibly tonsured, hands holding books or gesturing, all before John Baptist, nimbed, wearing mantle of skins; in arched window of in prison. Miniatures are proofs for Bernhart Richel’s Spiegel der Menschlichen Behältnis (Basel: 1476) with biblical quotes, commentary and abbreviated extracts, written in German, for mourners of the Last Judgment (sinners, unfaithful and all the world) and John Baptist: sending Disciples to Christ.
